Yes, Jacob... "God Bless America"

April 10- My first installment of Diane's Diaries and I'm arguing with one of my closest friends. Jacob, I love u lots, but you need to set your emotions aside and look at this war from a different point of view...

I'm not in IB and I probably never will be. I'm not in forensics or debate and probably never will be. I wish to write this article to put the facts out there not just rumors spread by anti-war demonstrators. I have a mind and therefore my own opinions and heck we live in a free country so why not use them?

While we were here in our own little environment with our little problems of wondering if that special someone loves you too or if Ms. K will yell at you tomorrow or how to tell your parents you failed a class... across the ocean people were suffering. Some say Saddam Hussein only killed infidels and criminals. This is not true. He killed women, he killed children. People of his own country... Did he have a reason? Maybe in his little mind he did, but these were innocent people. Curds were gassed by the hundreds. If you say we should let Saddam run his country the way he wants just because he has the power and we should stay in our own little world of "This one time at band camp..." you are saying we should have left Hitler be. Well, Hitler was a leader of a country... should we just have left him alone to kill whom he pleased? I think not...

Your right, maybe the Iraqi people are not ready for a democracy like ours, but they do not deserve the government they have now. The Roman Empire may have been fine, but was Caesar killing innocent people in the streets in front of their families... There is no comparison to Saddam and Caesar.

As I watched the news as I assume many of you have been doing lately I witnessed something I wish all anti-war people could have seen. A soldier, wounded and home in a hospital, watched as hundreds of anti-war demonstrators marched in the street and he cried... He told how he could not believe these people spent their time doing this when young men and women were trying to help thousands of people and kill a man who caused our country so much pain on September 11. He wondered out loud with tears in his eyes why they did not use that time to support those troops. These soldiers are proud to be doing what they are doing, and we should be proud of them.

Speaking of September 11, have you forgotten it already? Do you think we should have just sat back and told them we were peaceful people and didn't care that they killed so many of our own people? Our fellow Americans? Should we have let the terrorists see if we were afraid? We're not afraid and we are showing them now that you do not mess with us... You ask how we are fighting for our freedom? Do you not even stop to think of that day and look through how much our country has grown through that?

I also witnessed on the news Iraqi people cheering as they brought down the statue of Saddam. These people want freedom. We want to give it to them.

I just want to say that as some cry themselves to sleep I stay awake and wonder why I have been so blessed to live in this country? Can you not see it as a blessing? Would you rather live in a country with a leader who could turn around and kill your family right before your eyes. Jacob, we are fighting for what is right, for what is right as human beings. Support the troops, support the need for human rights, and we need to support the president of this country. I personally would not feel safe if Al Gore were running the country at this time. I mean that. This war won't last for too long and it is right. Right for us and right for Iraq.

Once more I just want to point out that these are my own personal opinions and I did not mean to offend anybody...
